'Tiger!' linocut print

£240.00

I've always been fascinated by tigers; as a child seeing them pace intensely (and depressingly) around their enclosures, Judith Kerr's beautiful 'The Tiger Who Came To Tea', reading about them in Chinese folklore as great Earth-bound entities protecting humans from the three disasters (fire, thieves and ghosts) and even in music such as Brian Auger and Julie Driscoll's intense jazz rock work-out 'Tiger' which inspired the title of this piece in-so-much as I kept it simple saving all the waffling for this bit...

So it was only a matter of time before I attempted a linocut print of a tiger. Based on a watercolour painting I did a few years ago I wanted to see if I could translate some of the painterly elements into a layered reduction linocut print. It took about five months in total gradually cutting away more of the linoleum from light layers to dark. COVID extended the process too as I couldn't access Resort Studios to use the print facilities.

Technically speaking it's a four colour reduction print from a run of twenty measuring approximately 73cm x 56 cm printed on Somerset Satin 250gsm paper with Caligo oil-based ink. A small signature and edition number can be found underneath each print.

Each print may vary ever-so slightly as they are printed by hand.
